One Million Trees 🌳

I love this goal! Planting a million trees is no easy feat, but global warming is only getting worse and I feel it’s time to act.

Funding this goal is simple. 20% of all revenue collected will be used to fund the trees. That means every document you digitally sign will help reduce CO₂ in the atmosphere. The funds will go to a shortlist of organisations that plant trees on a massive scale.

If you digitally signed 1,000 contacts per year, we could plant ~200 trees. A mature tree absorbs about ~22Kg (44lb) of CO₂ per year, younger trees asorb less. Over the 100 year lifetime of a tree, it’s estimated it can absorb 1,000kgs of CO₂. After using GoodSign for 10 years, the total net effect would be approx 2,000,000kg of carbon sequestered over the life of these trees. To put this into perspective, the average person in the USA emits 16,000kg of CO₂ per year.

There are many other benefits to planting trees other than sequestering CO₂. Many species of wildlife depend on trees for habitat. Trees provide food, protection, and homes for many birds and mammals. Trees reduce the amount of storm water runoff, which reduces erosion and pollution in our waterways and may reduce the effects of flooding. Lastly, without trees we would all suffocate as trees produce oxygen.
