When you send files through GoodSend, the system automatically applies a 7-day expiration period to all file links. This security feature ensures your sensitive information doesn't remain accessible indefinitely and helps maintain data privacy.
How Expiration Works
The 7-day countdown begins from the moment you complete your file send. After seven calendar days, the following occurs:
The download link sent to your recipient becomes inactive
Files are automatically removed from the GoodSend servers
Recipients attempting to access the link will see an expiration notice
Neither the sender nor the recipient can download the files again

Tracking Expiration Status
GoodSend provides visibility into the status of your file links:
Log in to your GoodSend account
Navigate to the "File History" or "Sent Files" section
Review the status column for each send
Expiring files will display the remaining time (e.g., "Expires in 2 days")
Expired files will be marked as "Expired"
Notifying Recipients of Expiration
Recipients receive information about file expiration in:
The initial email notification containing the download link
The download page when they access the link
A reminder email sent 24 hours before expiration (if files haven't been downloaded)
What Happens After Expiration?
After a file link expires:
The recipient can no longer access the files
You'll need to send the files again if the recipient still needs them
A new send will use one credit ($1.50)
The original tracking information remains in your account history
Sending Files Again After Expiration
If your recipient needs access after the file has expired:
Navigate to your GoodSend dashboard
Locate the expired send in your history
Click "Send Again" or "Resend Files" option
Confirm the recipient details
Complete the new send process (using one credit)
Extending File Availability
GoodSend's 7-day expiration cannot be extended. For extended availability, consider these alternatives:
Schedule a reminder to resend files before expiration
Notify your recipient about the 7-day window when sending
For long-term file sharing, consider using cloud storage services in addition to GoodSend
Common Questions About Expiration
Can I manually delete files before the 7-day expiration?
Yes, you can delete files early by accessing your send history and selecting "Delete Send."
Do downloaded files expire on the recipient's device?
No, once files are downloaded to the recipient's device, they remain there even after the link expires.
Will I be notified when my sent files expire?
GoodSend does not currently send automatic notifications to senders about expired files.
